[Russo-Turkish War.] Besitznahme von Adrianopeldurch die Kaiserl. Russ. Armee unter dem Beshle des Grafen Diebitsche Sabalkandky den 20.ten August 1829.
A scene at the end of the Russo-Turkish War of 1828–1829, showing the victorious Russians marching into Edirne, once Hadrianoplis, on the western limit of European Turkey led by Czar & General Diebitsche Sabalkansky. The war started after the Russians helped the Greek independence movement fight the Battle of Navarino in 1827: the Turks closed the Dardanelles to Russian ships and revoked the Akkerman Convention. The war ended with the Treaty of Adrianople, which increased Russian dominance around the Black Sea area and Georgia, and, most importantly, forced the Sultan to promise autonomy for Greece.
