Aaron Arrowsmith (1750-1823), English cartographer who entered the map trade working for John Cary and William Faden, before starting his own business. He was made Hydrographer to the Prince of Wales c.1810 and subsequently to the King in 1820. He was especially renowned for his large wall maps, made with scientrific attention to detail. After his death the business was continued by his sons Aaron & Samuel (publishers of this portrait) and nephew John Arrowsmith (1790-1873).
