Jean-Baptiste Louis Adanson (1732-1803), the dragoman and Chancellor of France to the Orient. Like many Western Diplomats he was fascinated by Eastern civilisations and created watercolours and drawings to illustrate works on Turkish Music by his colleague Charles Fonton.
