Sir Alexander Mackenzie (1764-1820) the Scottish explorer, known for his overland crossing of Canada to the Pacific Ocean in 1793. This was the first east to west crossing of North America and predated the Lewis and Clark expedition by 10 years. The Mackenzie River, Canada, is named after him.
