Mezzotint and etching. 430 x 285mm (17 x 11¼").
Oval mezzotint portrait of Victor Moreau (1763-1813), surrounded by an etched border and a scene of the Battle of Hohenlinden, 1800, which helped end the War of the Second Coalition. However his rivalry with Napoleon forced him into exile in the United States. On the outbreak of the War of 1812 he was offered command of the U.S. Army, but he returned to Europe, where he died at the Battle of Dresden, advising the Russians on how to beat his native country.
