A scene from the 'Glorious First of June', in which the Channel fleet under the command of Lord Howe attacked a French fleet off the island of Ushant (Ouessant) capturing seven French ships. On his return to England, Lord Howe was greeted at Portsmouth by King George III, who presented Howe with a diamond-hilted sword valued at three thousand guineas.
