Impressive view of the Crystal Palace and surrounding parkland, showing the terraces and fountains. By Thomas H. Ellis (1840-1851, fl.). The Crystal Palace erected to house the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park in 1851. Following the success of the exhibition, the palace was moved and reconstructed in 1854 in a modified and enlarged form in the grounds of the Penge Place estate at Sydenham Hill, south London; this structure was later destroyed by a fire on 30 November 1936.
