Engraved sea chart with roulette shading. Printed area 190 x 410mm, 7½ x 16". Spotted, pencil mss. ship's track added.
A sketch chart of the Cape of Good Hope, unusual for its use of roulette to shade the sea. Captain John Lamb (1790-1862), a Royal Naval Officer who saw active service during the Napoleonic Wars, retired from the Navy in 1814 to join the merchants Buckles, Bagster & Buchanan, whom he helped transport convicts to Australia. The chart has been re-used to show another ship's track, marked in pencil upper right.
