Portrait of Sir Henry Charles Englefield, 7th Bt (1752 - 1822), natural philosopher and antiquary; seated in an armchair, head in nearly full profile to left; wearing a dark double-breasted coat over waistcoat and holding a small round encased object in his right hand. A large portfolio leans against armchair in foreground on right; table with vase and bowl in background on left, with tall windows with coat of arms behind. Englefield had a broad range of interests ranging from the orbits of the comets and the geology of the Isle of Wight to Roman antiquities. He was President of the Society of Antiquaries (1811-12), Secretary of the Dilettanti Society, and Fellow of the Royal Society. After Thomas Phillips (1770-1845).
