Portrait of Dr William Harvey, bust directed to right but looking at the viewer, wearing gown and white collar; in an ornamental oval with a curtain; a drawing of the human arterial system in lower left, a rod of Asclepius and books lying in foreground. A fine proof printed in amsterdam prior to Thomas Birch's 'Heads of the Illustrious Persons of Great Britain' 1743-52. Dr William Harvey (1578-1657) the English physician who described completely, and in detail, the systematic circulation and properties of blood being pumped to the body by the heart.
