[Portrait of a woman, possibly Mary Ruthven or Princess Mary?]
Ething, 198 x 146mm (7¾ x 5¾"). Trimmed to border; glue stains to top corners; ms inscription 'Helena Forman' showing through from verso.
Portrait after van Dyck, variously suggested to represent Rubens' second wife Hélène Fourment (as here, subsequently crossed out), van Dyck's own wife Mary Ruthven, and Mary, Princess of Orange. Etched by French artist Louis Elle (1612-89), who often signed his name 'L. Ferdinand' in deference to his father, Ferdinand Elle.
