Mary Herbert (née Sidney), Countess of Pembroke (1561-1621) was one of the first English women to achieve a major reputation for her literary works, poetry, poetic translations and literary patronage. She was the dedicatee of Sir Philip Sidney's'The Countess of Pembroke's Arcadia'.
