Portrait of Jane Seymour (1508-1537), Queen Consort of England as the third wife of King Henry VIII. Half length, to the left, wearing triangular headdress, and pearls with drop pendant. She succeeded Anne Boleyn as Queen Consort following the latter's execution in 1536, but died of postnatal complications less than two weeks after the birth of her only child, a son who briefly reigned as Edward VI. After Hans Holbein the Younger (1497/8 - 1543), for 'Portraits of Illustrious Personages of the Court of Henry VIII Engraved in imitation of the original drawings of Hans Holbein in the Collection of His Majesty, with biographical and historical memoirs' issued in parts between 1792 and 1800.
