The woman carries a chair towards a well-dressed musician, who seems to be holding a conductor's baton. A violin or double-bass is mounted on the room's panelled wall behind. A plate to 'Ęsop at Court; or, The labyrinth of Versailles Delineated in French and English...'. The book includes 42 plates plus a plan and pictorial titlepage. The plates are chiefly of the fountains in the Labyrinth at the Palace of Versailles, which represent some of Ęsop's fables. The English translation of the verse and of C. Perrault's prose descriptions is by Daniel Bellamy (b. 1687); the editor is Bellamy the younger (d. 1788).
