Solo (c.638 BC - 558 BC), the Athenian statesman, lawmaker and poet. His reforms failed in the short term, but he is often credited with having laid the foundations for Athenian democracy. One of a number of stipple heads of Kings and Queens of similar format printed on quarto sheets, by Chapman, published by J. Wilkes, 1795-1810. They probably appeared as illustrations to the 'Encyclopaedia Londinensis, Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences and Literature ... Embellished by ... engravings. Compiled ... by John Wilkes'.
