Macau lies on the western side of the Pearl River Delta across from Hong Kong, which lies to the east. At the time this engraving was made it was a Portuguese colony. Camões Grotto is the former home of 16th Century Portuguese poet Luís de Camões. For 'China Illustrated' by Thomas Allom (1804 - 1872).
