Syon Monastery, founded by the Bridgettine Order in 1415. As seen here the estate came into the possession of Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset, who started work on building the first Syon House in the Italian Renaissance style. The engraving describes below the image, the history of the castle, from Norman times to the early 18th century, including the numerous changes of ownership.
