John Bell (1763-1820) the Scottish anatomist and surgeon who carried on from 1790, after completing his professional education at Edinburgh, in Surgeon's Square, and anatomical lecture theatre. His younger brother, Sir Charles Bell (1774-1842), also a Scottish surgeon, anatomist, neurologist and philosophical theologian, conducted his surgical training in Edinburgh as an assistant to John Bell.
