Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) was one of the most prominent of the Founders and early political figures and statesmen of the United States. In 1750, Franklin published 'Experiments and Observations on Electricity', a proposal for an experiment to prove that lightning is electricity by flying a kite in a storm that appeared capable of becoming a lightning storm. He is recognised as Foundling Father of the United States of America, being the only person to sign the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the Peace Treaty in 1783 and the United States Constitution in 1787.
