Cornelius Gemma (1535-1578), the physician, astronomer and astrologer. He was a professor of medicine at the Catholic University of Leuven. He is credied with publishing the first scientific illustration of the aurora and various astrological observations. He also has the distinction of being called 'the first true orchid hobbyist, in the modern sense'.
