View of boats on the River Thames showing Orleans House in Twickenham, Middlesex; Twickenham is now in the London borough of Richmond upon Thames. Orleans House was built c.170 by John James for James Johnston (1643-1737), Secretary of State for Scotland. After Johnston's death the property passes to George Morton Pitt (1693-1756), MP for Pontefract. In 1730 he became Governor of the Madras Presidency at Fort St. George and served there as President for five years.
