Portrait of a leading figure in the Greek nationalist struggle against the Ottoman Empire; armed with musket, sword and pistol, wearing cap and fur cloak, a temple in the rocky landscape behind. Lettered in English and French. Adam Friedel was a Danish-born painter and lithographic printer, publisher of a series of lithographs under the title 'Twenty-Four Portraits of the principal leaders and personages who have made themselves most conspicuous in the Greek Revolution' (London & Paris, 1827-29).
