Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales (1707-1751), son of Georg August (later George II) and father of George III. He first arrived in England in 1728 and was kept on a restricted income by his parents. He married Augusta of Saxe-Gotha in 1736 and died in 1751 before he could succeed to the throne. His son was crowned George III in 1760. Frederick assembled an important art collection, patronising artists such as Philip Mercier, and he also supported music-making, in 1732 sponsoring the Opera of the Nobility (a rival to the Haymarket).
