Hagar standing to right, throwing out her arms in despair, looking towards an angel which appears in the centre, gesturing towards her with one arm and towards her child Ishmael with the other, while the boy lies on a boulder between gnarled tree-trumps to left, in a barren landscape of cliffs and trees. From a series of twenty plates engraved by Hamlet Winstanley (1698 - 1756) after old master paintings at Knowsley Hall, in the collection of the 19th Earl of Derby.
