John Bright (1811-1889) was a radical statesman and orator. He managed family mills before entering public life in the 1830s, and with Richard Cobden he led the agitation for the repeal of the Corn Laws. He was an active political, social and economic reformer, who served in several ministries; he was one of the most important and influential political figures of the age.
