An Anglo-Indian social occasion, with , at centre, a 'Nautch girl' dancing to the accompaniment of musicians. In northern India, Nautch is one of several styles of popular dance, performed by young girls. The word is an anglicised version of a word found in Hindi and Urdu; a literal translation of Nautch is 'dance' or 'dancing'.
