James Harris, 1st Earl of Malmesbury (1746-1820) in his study. Harris was an English diplomatist who served extensively throughout Europe, in Spain, Berlin, St Petersburg and the Hague. He was involved in the French peace missions at the end of the French Revolutionary War. He was a Member of Parliament for Christchurch from 1770 to 1774 and again from 1780 to 1788.
