A fine and rare mezzotint. Plate 501 x 350mm. 19¾ x 13¾". Trimmed close to the plate.
Portrait, half-length seated directed to left, head in profile to left, left hand resting in her lap, wearing a loose gown with a dark ribbon around the neckline, belt and turban with jewelled band over gauzy shawl on loose hair, edge of the shawl over left elbow, coil of hair over right shoulder. Mrs Ward (fl.c.1792), an actress. A Mrs. Ward is recorded as an actress at Drury Lane Theatre and various other London stages.
