Portrait of Mildmay Fane, half length in an oval wreath, short beard and moustache, wearing cap, collar and sash; curtain to the left, and map of part of Lincolnshire on the right, below a monogram; at top, banderole with motto 'PatriŠ causa principis iussu semper in utrumq[ue] paratus'; in lower left spandrel, troops being led by men on horseback; in lower right spandrel, a town with breached walls against which rest ladders; coat of arms in lower margin, with motto 'Neville Fano'. Milmay Fane, 2nd Earl of Westmorland, (1602-1665) was an English nobleman, politician and writer.
