The Twelve Years Truce was given to the cessation of hostilities between the Habsburg rulers of Spain and the Southern Netherlands and the Dutch Republic as agreed in Antwerp in 1609. The peace conference opened in The Hague in 1608; the delegation of the Habsburg Netherlands was led by Ambrogio Spinola (1569-1630). Its leading participant was the Chief-President Jean Richardot (1540-1609); assisted by Father Jan van Neyen, the King of Spain's representative in the peace negotiations, Don Juan de Mancicidor, private secretary to the King of Spain and Secretary of State and War, and Louis Verreycken, Secretary of the State Council of the Southern Netherlands and the audiencier to the Privy Council.
