A British reproduction of a fragment of John Binn's engraved facsimile of the 1776 American Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence announced that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as independent states and no longer part of the British Empire. Binn, an Irish-born Philadelphia journalist and publisher of The Democratic Press, was one of the first to realize in 1816 the potential market for a "splendid and correct copy of the Declaration of Independence, with fac-similes of all the signatures..." (as described in his solicitation for subscribers). It was finally published in 1819. From an unidentified publication.
