Gwyllym Lloyd Wardle (1762? - 1833), soldier and politician. As MP for Okehampton, he exposed the scandal arising from the association of Frederick, Duke of York with Mary Anne Clarke, who was accused of illicitly selling army commissions under the Duke's aegis. A vivid and subtly satirical contemporary likeness published as news of the scandal broke. The Duke resigned as commander-in-chief of the Army on 25 March 1809.
