[Braxted Park estate map.]
Lithographic map, overprinted with blue, old mss. additions. Dissected and laid on linen, marbled covers. 1260 x 1360mm, 50 x 53˝". Very slight spotting.
A detailed estate map of Braxted Park in Essex, even naming the tenants of each property. The manuscript alterations include changes of tenants and the addition of Durward's Hall. It is likely that the map was prepared when the estate was up for sale by the Du Cane family: it eventually sold in 1919 to William Boulton, who then sold it to the Plessey Company in 1947, to be occupied by Sir Allen Clark, chairman of the company. Today the estate is now owned by a Clark family trust and managed by Sir Allen Clark’s grandson, Duncan Clark, as a country house venue and golf course.
