A fine aquatint view of the Vale of Calaat (Chetzin Calat) in Tigray province, Ethiopia. From Salt's monumental series of Oriental scenery, 'Twenty-Four Views in St. Helena, The Cape, India, Ceylon, The Red Sea, Abyssinia and Egypt'. Salt (1780-1827) accompanied Lord Valentia on a diplomatic mission to counteract Napoleon's efforts in Egypt.
