A party of French sailors rowing towards the island of Tikopia in the south-western Pacific Ocean. Covering an area of 2 square miles, the island is the remnant of an extinct volcano; it is the southernmost of the Solomon Islands. Numbered 'Pl.172' upper right; from 'Voyage de la Corvette l'Astrolabe', the account of Jules Dumont D'Urville's important expedition to the South Seas between 1826 and 1829.
