Edward Hawke, 1st Baron Hawke (1705 - 1781), was an officer of the Royal Navy. He is remembered for his service during the Seven Years' War and in particular his victory over a French fleet at the Battle of Quiberon Bay in 1759, preventing a French invasion of Britain. After Francis Cotes (1726 - 1770). The plate was used in Vol. 6 of 'Biographia Navalis' (J. Charnock, London, 1794-8).
