Hay Makers. Scene, Croydon _ Surry. [&] Reapers. Scene, Canterbury.
London Published July 1808 by S. Morgan No.32 Clipstone St. Fitzroy Square.
Pair of very rare stipples with etching printed in sepia, sheets 430 x 510mm. 17 x 20". Trimmed to plates.
Two attractive rural scenes, rarely offered as a pair as originally intended, after Edward Dayes (1763 - 1804). The tower of the parish church of St. John the Baptist at Croydon is visible above the rooftops behind the agricultural labourers in the first image; the second composition boats a magnificent prospect of Canterbury Cathedral in Canterbury, Kent, with a rainbow, in the background.
