Expressive and uncommon portrait of John Henry Newman (1801 - 1890), Cardinal and theologian. A leading figure in the Oxford Movement with John Keble and Edward Bouverie Pusey, Newman converted to Catholicism, and ordained as a Catholic priest in1847. He published autobiographical Apologia Pro Vita Sua, 1864; elevated to Cardinal, 1879; one of the greatest churchmen and theological thinkers of the nineteenth century. Pope Benedict XVI presided at his beatification on September 19th 2010, in the culminating act of a visit to the United Kingdom.
