Longue paume is an outdoor version of jeu de paume, or real/court tennis, and an ancestor of modern lawn tennis. It was part of the Paris 1900 Summer Olympics, but its medal status is disputed. Today, the sport is played regionally in Picardie. The governing body of the sport is the Fédération Française de Longue Paume headquartered in Amiens. From a series of engravings offering snippets of Parisian life that would have been sold to tourists, usually from Britain.
