Archduke Charles of Austria, Duke of Teschen (1771-1847) was an Austrian field-marshal. He was a commander and a reformer of the Austrian army; "late" Commander of the Austrian Armies refers to a period when he briefly retired due to ill health but was quickly recalled to undertake the defence of Vienna. He was compared to Wellington for his skills as a strategist and considered to be one of Napoleon's most formidable opponents.
