A Maker of Dutch-Ware at Work.
Copper Engraving. 133 x 82mm. 5¼ x 3¼". Cut.
Dutch-ware began being manufactured in the Netherlands at the end of the 16th century. The earliest pottery wares were painted in the style of Italian majolica with glazes that when fired at high-temperature gave colours of unusual density and these were usually called Netherlands majolica. Here the potter is seated at a kick pottery wheel throwing and shaping his pot.
