Antonio Canova (1757-1822) was an Italian sculptor of the neo-classical genre. He trained in Venice before setting off on his travels. He was made famous by his marble sculptures rendering the delicate touch of the nude flesh. Being neo-classical, his work marked a return to the classical perfection and fine art after the excessive extravagance of the Baroque era.
