Karl Friedrich Becker (1777 – 1806) was a German educator and historian. His most noted work was Weltgeschichte für Kinder und Kinderlehrer (World History for Children and Teachers of Children) which was widely used and much edited and revised by other noted historians after Becker's death. According to the Bible Absalom rebelled against his father King David and it was at the Battle of Ephraim Wood that Absalom's army was completely routed. Absalom himself was caught by his head in the boughs of an oak-tree as the mule he was riding ran beneath it. He was discovered hanging there still alive by one of David's men, who reported the matter to Joab, the king's commander. David had charged his men to deal gently with his son but Joab thrust three spears through Absalom's heart as he struggled in the branches. Then ten of Joa b's armor-bearers surrounded Absalom and killed him.
