A fine race-horse stands in the centre, held at the reins by a well-dressed women, possibly Mrs. Thornhill. Behind the horse is a group of men, with Mr Thornhill in the centre, a very stout man, pointing back to his wife. A man in tartan trousers, probably Farquharson, rushes up behind the group shouting with raised arms.
