A chart and four coastal profiles of Pitcairn, as sketched by the crew of Captain Philip Carteret in 1767, who named the island after Midshipman Robert Pitcairn, a fifteen-year-old crew member who first spotted the land. Pitcairn is famous as the home of the Bounty mutineers. Engraved by Bénard for a French edition of the Official Account of Cook's Voyages, which included accounts of other English explorers in the South Seas.
