Gerard Lake, 1st Viscount Lake (1744-1808), commander of the British forces during Irish Rebellion of 1798 and Commander-in-Chief of the military in British India from 1801 (with General Arthur Wellesley under his command). The Battle of Laswari was fought on November 1, 1803 as part of the Second Anglo-Maratha War. During the battle Lake had two horses killed under him, and his son, Lt-Col. George A. F. Lake, was wounded by a cannon-shot at his side as Lake was mounting to head the decisive charge of the 76th.
