Very fine mezzotint. In a beautiful French gilt frame. 303 x 333mm. 12 x 13¼", outside of frame 500 x 450mm.
Provocative image of a courtesan lying in bed with a cap with ribbons, looking alluringly at the viewer. Peters was renowned for portraits of sensual women. 'The picture may probably be identified with the 'Woman in Bed' shown at the Academy of 1777' (Manners). Four known versions of the picture were painted by Peters for the 1st Earl Grosvenor, one of which is now in the Tate Britain (T04848).
