Sidney Smith ( 1764-1840), admiral. He distinguished himself at the Battle of the Chesapeake in 1781 and, by helping the Turks repell Napoleon's siege of Acre in 1799, caused Bonaparte to say 'That man made me miss my destiny'. He was made Rear Admiral in 1805.
