Etching. Plate 266 x 202mm. 10½ x 8".
Wallace Hester (1866-1923?) was an artist and engraver who contributed caricatures to "Vanity Fair."
University College London was the third university to open in England, in 1826. It was founded upon the basis of opening up education to wider social groups and to challenge to ethos set by Oxford and Cambridge. In doing so, it was the first university in England to admit students of any race, class or religion, and the first to welcome women on equal terms with men.
