Spilsbury, a naval surgeon and amateur artist who made the drawings while on board HMS Le Tigre during campaigns in 1799 and 1800. The source watercolour by Spilsbury is in the V & A Museum.

Plate seventeen from a series of thirty-two plates illustrating the story of Cupid and Psyche. The plates were designed by Flemish artist Michiel Coxie I (1499-1592) and engraved (with the exception of three plates by Augusto Veneziano) by the Master of the Die (so-called for his signature mark, a die with the letter B). This plate is by the Master of the Die, but like most of the series it is unsigned. This impression is from the third state of the series, after the publication line of Antonio Salamanca was added.

After one of several versions of this scene painted by Titian (c.1489-1576), engraved by Robert Strange as a companion to 'Venus' and published in a collected edition of his engravings.

The highwayman William Hawke (d.1774) was transported to America for his crimes before resuming them on his return to England. This print shows Hawke (on left, with pistol) robbing Mr. Hart and Captain Cunningham in Knightsbridge or Fulham (accounts differ), firing a pistol when the victims refused his demands for money. For this crime Hawke was executed at Tyburn on 1 July 1774. Engraving published in the 'Tyburn Chronicle'.

The Roman historian Valerius Maximus relates how Cimon, an aged man forced to starve in jail, was nourished by his daughter Pero. Etching after a drawing by Rembrandt from Bernard Picart's series 'Impostures innocentes, ou Recueil d'estampes d'après divers peintres illustres', a set of etchings after artists including Raphael, Parmaginanino and Rembrandt published in Amsterdam shortly after Picart's death in 1733.

The shepherd Faustulus carries one of the twins to his wife, Acca Larentia, while the she-wolf suckles the other in the background. From a collected edition of the engravings by Sir Robert Strange (1721-92) after famous paintings, in this case one by Pietro da Cortona, now in the Louvre.

Venus sits as the Graces fasten a bracelet around her wrist, tie her sandal straps and place a tiara in her hair. Cupid leans on her thigh. From a collected edition of the engravings by Sir Robert Strange (1721-92) after famous paintings, in this case 'The Toilet of Venus', now in the National Gallery, attributed to Guido Reni and his studio.

Venus reclining on a bed, a puppy near her feet. Behind two women take clothes from a chest. It was painted by Titian (c.1489-1576) for Duke of Urbino Guidobaldo II Della Rovere in 1538, a present for the Duke's young wife, and is now in the Uffizi Gallery Museum, Florence. It was sketched by Robert Strange in Florence in 1761, engraved by him in London 1768 and published in a collected edition of his engravings.
